Vintage Car Family Photos in Cleveland Ohio
This session had been on my photography bucket list for years.
Not this exact session, of course, but the idea of photographing a family with a vintage car. Something a little retro, a little nostalgic, a little different from the usual family photos in a field. I had posted on Instagram about wanting to create a session like this, and this mom who I originally met years ago when I photographed their newborn photos reached out.
The second I saw the car, I was all in.
For this family session, we kept things simple and photographed at a park near their home. The location itself was not anything overly fancy, but that was kind of the point. The car, the wardrobe, the family, and all the little details brought the whole session to life.
A Retro Inspired Family Session in Cleveland
This family went all in on the vibe, which made the session so much fun to photograph. The vintage car gave us a natural setting to work around, and their outfits tied everything together without feeling too costume like or overdone. And it was SO THEM. It wasn’t preformative. It all made sense.
I also had a little extra fun with the editing on this gallery, using some retro and film inspired tones that fit the feeling of the session. It gave the images a little more nostalgia and helped connect the whole story visually.
And yes, it is “just a car,” so you might think there are only so many things you can do with it. But for me, the magic was in the details.
Mom’s tattooed fingers reaching for her oldest daughter.
The bandanas.
The sandals.
Their hands on the steering wheel.
The dice hanging from the rearview mirror.
The girls climbing in and around the car.
The way the whole family interacted once they had something fun to do.
Those little pieces are what made the session feel personal.
Family Photos That Feel Like You
One of my favorite things about lifestyle family photography is that it does not have to follow the same formula every time. Your session can include something you love, something meaningful, something fun, or something that simply gives your kids a reason to relax and interact.
For this family, the vintage car gave us that. It created movement, personality, and a little bit of story. Instead of only asking everyone to stand together and smile, we could let the girls explore, let the parents interact with them, and use the car as a natural prompt throughout the session.
That is often when family photos start to feel less stiff and more real.
Of course, we still got beautiful family portraits. But we also captured the in between moments: hands reaching, kids leaning in, tiny details, playful movement, and the kind of images that feel like they belong to this family specifically.
Honestly, this session’s gallery is HUGE. And I tried to narrow it down because I know this is way too many images to share in a blog post but I just COULDN’T. Because you need to really see both the pullbacks, far away and those details to feel the whole story.
Planning a Cleveland Family Photo Session
If you are looking for a Cleveland family photographer and want something more personal than a traditional park session, this is your sign that your family photos do not have to look like everyone else’s.
Because it’s just the ONE thing that can completely transform what would have been an ordinary park session into something so fun and unique and memorable that ONLY your family will have for family photos.
Forget Christmas cards. What do you want to hang on your wall? What do you want to leave your children to remember their childhood?
Bring the car. Use your backyard. Go to the park down the street. Choose the thing that makes the session feel more like your actual family.
I photograph relaxed, lifestyle inspired family sessions throughout Cleveland, Akron, Medina, and the surrounding Northeast Ohio area. Whether your session is at home, at a local park, or built around something meaningful to your family, I would love to help you create photos that feel natural, nostalgic, and real.
