5 Must Have Photos at Your Babies Newborn Session

I’ve been a full time portrait photographer in Cleveland, Ohio for over 10 years now, which means I have the experience and know exactly what kind of photos my clients end up loving!

No need to make me a Pinterest list of ideas, just show up for your newborn session, and know I’ve got you covered.

With that said, here are 5 of my must have photos for every newborn session, that you can expect I will be including in your session with me!

  1. The Grandma Pose

Aka the sitting and looking at the camera and smiling! While this will be what we do the LEAST in any session you have with me, I prefer to focus on the details and moments, we DO always get that everyone look at the camera and smile photo! While YES I love the emotion and interaction, it’s good to still have that standard photo to share with Grandma, on announcements, and for the memories. Once we get that, we move onto the fun stuff, but we almost always start the session off with this one! We also get some other less traditional poses of the entire family together, or parents and baby together. If you do have other children, siblings are ALWAYS welcome to come in for family photos!

2. The Details

The peach fuzz, tiny toes, fingers, nose. I love a good, close up, detailed shot! As I’m sure you’ve already been told 100 times over, they don’t stay little for long. And cliche, yet true, they grow so fast the first few weeks. It’s wild to look back and see JUST how small they really were! So whether they are detail shots close up of babies features alone, or they are photos comparing babies size (their hand to your finger) or something like that, we will definitely not miss including some adorable detailed shots. Because you can’t quite get images like this on your phone like you can on a professional camera!

3. Photos with Dad

How tiny they are when their head is in Dad’s hand, the way he stares at Dad, and Dad stares back! Are just among a few of my favorite. Getting single images with each parent with their child, is so SPECIAL! These are such great ways to show the bond, but also again document the size they are right now. You’ll only ever get to have photos like this once!

4. Photos with Mom

You may not feel you are looking your best. You may not feel your best. But, this is such a special bonding moment for you and baby. Your first photo session together during a tumultuous and wild time. You’re exhausted, overwhelmed, and flooded with emotions. How you hold them close, and how they fit so perfectly in your arms, is what I want to convey in these parent images. Your level of comfort is always up to you, but you’re welcome to wear something from the client closet (mom is in this session!) that makes you feel beautiful so you don’t have to worry about if it will photograph well, and we can also do skin to skin or nursing photos if you’d like. Completely up to you!

5. Photos of Baby Alone

The star of the show deserves some time in the spotlight solo! My photography doesn’t involve extravagant set ups or backdrops, buckets and poses. I do a lifestyle type of baby led posing, meaning I follow babies lead and how they are comfortable being posed. We go for a more natural look, using a moses basket, the bed, blankets, wraps, and outfits I have at the studio. Just like Mom, you don’t need to bring ANYTHING for baby! I have plenty that I know photographs well, and you’ll get to select your favorites when you arrive for baby to wear! Simple, classic photos of baby alone to keep and share, in beautiful textures and comfortable linens are all a part of the service here at the studio in Ohio.
