Theresa & Millie Motherhood Studio Session in Medina, Ohio

My very first session with Mom was when she was still pregnant with her daughter. Now, here we are at this Motherhood session! I rented this gorgeous tulle robe and she took me up on the offer to try it out. Millie ended up NOT loving her Mom in it, and she wasn’t a huge fan of the dress we chose for her either. So, after getting a few shots, we abandoned all the plans and wardrobe we had picked out, and we went with what Millie wanted.

Which was Mom back in jeans and her bodysuit and her jut hanging in the diaper.

While I LOVE the look and style of the wardrobe we chose, and it’s beautiful, funny enough my favorite photos ended up being the ones without the outfits we chose. It was natural. It was candid and cute and sweet. And she was just so much happier.

This session is the perfect example of two things:

  1. We follow the kids lead. MOST kids during a session will have a moment or two. They won’t like something, they might cry or not want to cooperate. A session CAN usually be salvaged by accepting that they are little people with big feelings, and being open to just going with it, can seriously make everything work out totally fine.

  2. Sometimes the unplanned stuff is pretty freaking rad. Don’t be afraid to be in a bra and jeans. Don’t be afraid to let your kid run free and wild in a diaper. A gorgeous gown doesn’t make the photo. The emotion and the people in them do.
